On May 26, 2009 the California Supreme Court made the wrong decision to, with a vote of 6 to 1, uphold Proposition 8. The fact that the 18000 same-sex marriages performed before Election Day will stand is good news, but not good enough considering that Prop 8 took away the rights granted to queer folks [...]

On May 26, 2009 the California Supreme Court made the wrong decision to, with a vote of 6 to 1, uphold Proposition 8. The fact that the 18000 same-sex marriages performed before Election Day will stand is good news, but not good enough considering that Prop 8 took away the rights granted to queer folks in California. Cities across America vowed to hold massive rallies regardless of the decision. In Chicago we gathered in front of the Center on Halsted, the gay youth and community center in the heart of Lakeview, the city’s gay district. Unfortunately, the rally was a protest, not a celebration. Let it be known that we wont stop fighting until all LGBT citizens have equal rights, from marriage rights to adoption rights to employment protection.

The fact that the 18000 same-sex marriages performed before Election Day will stand is good news, but not good enough considering that Prop 8 took away the rights granted to queer folks in California.
